Out of nowhere

Die EWP veranstaltete im Herbst 2008 ein 3-tägiges Wrestling Festival, zu welchem auch einige internationale Stars wie Cute Kip, Kenichiro Arai und Orlando Jordan gehörten.
Aber auch der Franko-Kanadier Rene Dupree war dabei und bekam für den ersten Abend des Festivals gleich den schwersten Brocken, den man sich vorstellen konnte: Cannonball Grizzly mit seinen 183 kg Kampfgewicht!
Dupree verließ sich offensichtlich zu sehr auf seinen internationalen Status und war umso mehr erstaunt, dass Grizzly keinerlei Respekt vor ihm hatte. Und je länger der Kampf dauerte, desto besser kam Grizzly mit Dupree zurecht.
Der Franko-Kanadier sah nur noch eine Möglichkeit und wollte sich disqualifizieren lassen. Aber Grizzly verhinderte dies und setzte seinerseits den Stuhl ein, den Dupree für ihn bedacht hatte.
Der Ringrichter bekam das mit und disqualifizierte Cannonball Grizzly dafür. So geht's auch, dachte sich Dupree und verschwand schnell aus dem Ring, bevor Grizzly ihn zu fassen bekam.

Noch eine Chance

Für den selben Abend war allerdings noch eine "Over-the-Top-Rope" Battle Royal angesetzt. Und so standen sich früher oder später Cannonball Grizzly und Rene Dupree erneut gegenüber, als Grizzly als vorletztes Michael Kovac über das oberste Seil beförderte.
Grizzly wollte sich für den geklauten Sieg im Match zuvor revanchieren, aber wie damals Sid Vicious beim WWF Royal Rumble 1992 Hulk Hogan festhielt und so Ric Flair den Sieg ermöglichte, hielt diesmal Michael Kovac Cannonball Grizzly fest und ermöglichte Rene Dupree die sichere Eliminierung seines Widersachers.
Rene Dupree wurde durch seine beiden Siege am ersten Abend zum MVP der Show und Canonnball Grizzly zum traurigen Verlierer, da beide Siege Dupree's auf Grizzly's Konto gingen.

Andere Gegner, gleiche Rivalität

EWP-Präsident Jörg Vespermann hatte die Angelegenheit zwischen Dupree und Grizzly schon abgehakt und beide Wrestler in Matches gegen andere Gegner gebookt. Grizzly bestritt an der Seite von Leon Van Gasteren ein Tag Team Match gegen Robbie Brookside und Big Van Walter und sah schon wie der sichere Sieger aus, als Rene Dupree plötzlich zum Ring gelaufen kam und Grizzly, welcher außerhalb des Rings gerade einen seiner Gegner in Mangel hatte, einen stuhl über den Schädel zog!
Der Ringrichter sah dies nicht und Brookside und Walter warteten im Ring in aller Ruhe auf den siegbringenden 10-Count gegen Grizzly. Lachend verzog sich Dupree wieder und feierte für sich sein 3:0 gegen Grizzly, während die Show in die Pause ging...

Nach der Pause war Rene Dupree an der Reihe, welcher eine Art Bestrafung für "Dirty" Dan Collins sein sollte, dessen Methoden immer brutaler und hinterhältiger wurden und der am Vortag schon Ecki Eckstein übel zugesetzt hat.
Wie erwartet konnte sich Dupree auch gut gegen den Engländer behaupten und war auch fast soweit den Sieg einzufahren, als Cannonball Grizzly plötzlich zum Ring kam. Dupree bemerkte das schnell und ergriff die Flucht, was zu einem Sieg durch auszählen für Dan Collins führte.
Grizzly hatte zwar für die erste Niederlage des Kanadiers bei diesem Festival gesorgt, aber zufrieden war er noch lange nicht. In einer emotionalen Promo forderte Grizzly seinen neuen Erzfeind auch sich ihm am Folgetag zu stellen... in einem Street Fight!

Last Man Standing

Am Sanstag, den 11. Oktober, schauten viele Augen auf den Main Event der Veranstaltung, in welchem Thunder seinen World Title gegen Orlando Jordan verteidigen musste. Aber den Showsteller lieferten eindeutig Cannonball Grizzly und Rene Dupree. Im letzten Kampf der ersten Show-Hälfte sollte ihre Kurzfehde zu einem Ende kommen.
Ringsprecher Olaf Heyden verkündete vor dem Kampf die etwas seltsamen Regeln1 und die ganze Halle erwartete eine Ringschlacht...
... welche sie auch bekam!
Am Ende war es Cannonball Grizzly, der Rene Dupree außerhalb des Rings so hart bearbeitete, dass dieser es nicht mehr rechtzeitig in den Ring zurück schaffte. Grizzly war der Sieger und hatte Dupree endlich in seine Schranken verwiesen.

Der Franko-Kanadier erwies sich nach Verkündung des Kampfendes als guter Verlierer, als er Grizzly mit einem Handschlag die Ehrerbietung und das Fehdenende anbot. Grizzly nahm an und der Hangar feierte beide Wrestler für ihre beeindruckenden Leistungen ab.

Soirée de catch samedi soir à Grenoble “Une série-télé avec de la testostérone”

PHÉNOMÈNE. Les catcheurs de la tournée “American wrestling rampage” se sont produits devant près de 2 500 personnes, samedi soir à Grenoble.

On l’a connue plus angoissée que samedi soir, Andrée... “Quand elle vient avec moi au rugby, elle passe la moitié du match les yeux fermés”, sourit son mari Maurice. Et pourtant, à quelques minutes seulement du coup d’envoi de la soirée de catch proposée ce week-end à Grenoble, cette Iséroise, venue avec son petit-fils Maxime, âgé de 12 ans, n’était pas anxieuse pour un sou. Inutile. Car comme l’analyse le môme, “les catcheurs ne se font pas mal pour de vrai”. Sans ambages !

Célian Varini : “Plus personne n’est dupe”

“Plus personne n’est dupe, explique le présentateur de cette soirée, Célian Varini. Le catch, c’est un peu comme une série télévisée avec de la testostérone.”
Un crochet dans les coulisses du Palais des sports de Grenoble, samedi, suffisait du reste à s’en convaincre... Des coulisses qui ressemblaient davantage à celles d’un studio de tournage hollywoodien, en effet, qu’à un vestiaire de football.

Sylvain Grenier : “Athlète à 80%, acteur à 20%”

Mais n’apparaît pas dans ce genre de séries TV qui veut. “Il en faut de l’entraînement pour “encaisser” ce que ces types-là prennent dans la figure tout au long de l’année”, insiste Célian Varini, qui commente régulièrement des combats de catch sur la TNT.
“Un bon catcheur, c’est un athlète à 80%, et un acteur à 20%”, estime ainsi le Québécois Sylvain Grenier, plusieurs fois sacré champion du monde WWE par équipe, avec notamment René Duprée. “Et ça, tu le comprends la première fois qu’un type de 300 livres (plus de 136 kg, NDLR) te tombe dessus...”
Alors depuis plus de dix ans, le Canadien, qui vit du catch, passe son temps dans les salles de sport. Et a “une hygiène de vie irréprochable”.

Pas que des armoires à glace

Pas la peine néanmoins d’être une armoire à glace pour réussir dans le catch. Et ce n’est certainement pas Shanna, un tout petit bout de catcheuse, qui dira le contraire : “Mon personnage est très aérien sur le ring. Alors, ma préparation est essentiellement faite de gymnastique acrobatique.”

Un public très jeune

“Je ne suis pas certaine qu’un enfant de 7 ans sache faire la différence entre le spectacle et la violence”, insiste Andrée, présente au Palais des sports de Grenoble, samedi, avec son petit-fils de 12 ans.
Jérôme, venu lui avec son môme de 5 ans, partage le même sentiment. Mais ne veut pas priver pour autant son môme de catch. “Je suis constamment derrière lui. Et< le contrat entre nous deux est simple : si un jour, il manque de respect à son frère, sa sœur ou n’importe qui, c’est plus de catch pendant un mois !”
Et visiblement, ça marche.

Comme tous les ans maintenant, la tournée de l’AWR (American Wrestling Rampage) passe par la France. Cette année est exceptionnelle en plus car pour la première fois dans l’hexagone, on peut assister tous les soirs de gala à un match en cage, d’où le nom de cette tournée : « Twisted steel tour 2010 ». Quelle chance pour le public de pouvoir assister à cet événement rare. Nous sommes allés rencontrer le public de Marseille et voici donc le résumé de cette soirée.

Le Dôme de Marseille

Il est 16H45 quand les catcheurs arrivent de Bordeaux, ville de la veille, après un périple en car assez éprouvant pour toute l’équipe. Un quart d’heure seulement avant le début du show. Très peu de temps pour que ces gladiateurs des temps modernes comme on les appelle souvent, se préparent et s’échauffent pour nous donner un bon spectacle…. Mais contrairement à toute attente, ils se sont donné à 200%, malgré la fatigue pour ravir un public de 2000 fans venus de toute la région pour les voir en pleine action.

Parmi ce public, on retrouve bien évidemment de nombreux enfants, dénués de toute peur et ne pensant qu’à une seule chose : s’approcher un maximum de leurs idoles pour les voir de près, et même essayer de les toucher, but ultime pour les rendre heureux ! Et bien entendu, ces derniers ne se sont pas fait prier pour satisfaire un public marseillais déchainés et heureux du spectacle qu’on leur offrait. Parmi les catcheurs, des européens, mais surtout des légendes américaines que petits et grands connaissent. King Booker (connu aussi sous le nom de Booker T dans certaines fédérations), Sylvain Grenier et René Duprée (anciens membres de l’équipe de la WWE (World Wreslting Entertainment) La Résistance), Shelton Benjamin, Shawn Daivari, Scott Steiner, Sandman… que de vedettes pour cette tournée européenne qui restera longtemps dans les mémoires. Mais voyons cela en détail :

Le présentateur vedette de la soirée n’est autre que Célian Varini, bien connu pour ses commentaire télévisés et de DVD de la TNA (Total Nonstop Action). Il nous annonce tout de suite le premier lutteur à faire son entrée sur le ring qui est Justin Shape, arrivant tout droit de la salle de sport (c’est lui qui l’affirme et au vu de sa tenue, on n’en doute pas une minute). Il est accompagné par la très charmante (et le mot est faible) Rachelle Saint Clair qui n’en n’est pas à son premier passage dans le Rampage. Malheureusement pour eux, l’adversaire qui arrive est une brute épaisse tout autant qu’une légende vivante : SANDMAN. Il ne fera qu’une bouchée du pauvre anglais.

Le deuxième combat opposera un autre vétéran de la WWE : Charlie Haas à un catcheur venant tout droit de la ALL JAPAN PRO-WRESTLING (fédération nationale de lutte professionnelle du Japon) : KAI. Apres un match acharné, c’est tout de même l’américain qui l’emportera sur le japonais, sous les sifflets des spectateurs.

Vient ensuite le tour de l’un des plus grand représentant francophone en la présence de Sylvain Grenier, ancien membres de La Résistance, une équipe qui a fait parler d’elle il y a quelques années au sein de la WWE. Il arrive en arborant le drapeau français, ce qui n'est pas pour déplaire... Il vient en découdre avec Christian Rabber. Le public sera comblé lors de la victoire de Sylvain, offrant également la victoire à la francophonie à Marseille.

Le combat suivant fut consacré à la voltige en mettant face à face deux acrobates qui nous ont donné un spectacle virevoltant de haut niveau. PAC, un lutteur anglais s’est retrouvé opposé à l’ancienne star de la WWE (et toujours dans la mémoire du public venu en grande partie pour lui) Shelton Benjamin. On pouvait entendre la foule scander « Let’s go Shelty B », même si le « gentil » du ring ce soir était plutôt PAC. Apres un combat endiablé, c’est tout de même Shelton qui l’emporte mais il retrouve son humilité à la fin et vient saluer son adversaire avant de partir. Un grand moment.

S’ensuit un entracte permettant aux organisateurs de faire monter la cage autour du ring. Impressionnant de voir avec quelle rapidité cela est fait !! Le public souffle un peu et se demande qui va pouvoir être assez fou pour s’affronter dans une cage…..

La soirée reprend. Célian Varini nous annonce l’arrivée du premier catcheur, champion depuis la veille au soir lorsqu’il a gagné son titre à Bordeaux : l’iranien Daivari. Ce dernier, très imbu de sa personne, défie quiconque de venir reprendre son titre. Un moment d’anxiété pour le public…. Qui va entrer dans cette cage où la règle est simple, pour gagner, il faut sortir soit en escaladant la cage, soit en ouvrant la porte. La musique retentit sur fond de sirène et là, plus de doutes. Tout le monde l’a compris, il s’agit de celle de Scott Steiner, le Big Poppa Pump comme on le surnomme souvent. Une ancienne star de nombreuses fédérations américaines (WWE avec son frere Rick, TNA, WCW,…). Davari s’affole et essaie de faire annuler ce match qui d’un coup lui fait peur. Mais ce qui est dit est dit et il doit maintenant affronter cette montagne de muscle. Ce dernier vient le chercher et nous offre un début de combat dans le public pour la plus grande joie des spectateurs qui ne demandent pas mieux que d’être dans le feu de l’action avec leurs idoles ! Bien entendu, après être retourné et enfermé dans cette cage d’acier, la force l’emportera sur l’arrogance et c’est Scotty qui reprendra le titre pour continuer cette tournée incroyable en mettant à terre son adversaire et en sortant tranquillement par la porte…

Quelques minutes passent pour démonter la cage. Nous avons maintenant droit à un combat par équipe ! Dans chaque coin du ring, deux hommes et une femme ! Première équipe à entrer dans l’arène : Johnny Moss, Sir Paul Tracey, et Shanna. Ils se font huer par le public. Leurs adversaires : Delicous Dunkan, le charismatique Shawn Maxer et la sublissime (et le mot est TRES faible !) April Hunter ! Les deux milles personnes présentent au Dôme de Marseille savent faire la différence et trouvent immédiatement leurs idoles pour ce match. Malheureusement, après tricherie, ce seront les bad boys (and girl) qui l’emporteront sur un tombé de la portugaise Shanna sur April. Dommage, mais c’est le jeu…

Nous voilà maintenant arrivé au « maint event » comme on dit outre atlantique ! Le « combat de tous les combats » comme on dit en France. Le premier catcheur, lui aussi multiple champion dans beaucoup de fédérations américaines (WWE, WCW, TNA,…) fait son apparition sous le pseudonyme de King Booker ! Une montagne d’ébène qui entre sous les applaudissements de la foule. Mais ces acclamations ne seront rien par rapport à celles qui sont réservées au champion de l’AWR : René Duprée. Deuxième représentant de la francophonie ce soir à Marseille, il déchaine la foule. Le combat sera exceptionnel, à la hauteur de la qualité des adversaires. Le King, ne voyant pas d’issue possible pour lui, essaiera d’assommer René avec sa ceinture de champion. Il sera disqualifié par l’arbitre pour cet acte, laissant le titre à René ! Belle performance.

Voici donc ce que vous avez pu vivre si vous étiez présent, ou ce que vous avez raté si vous n’êtes pas venu au Dôme de Marseille ce 11 novembre 2010. Un show exceptionnel, présenté par Célian Varini, entouré de nombreuses stars du monde du catch. Ceci prouve que la tournée de l’AWR a encore de belles années devant elle en nous proposant de telles cartes.

Every year now, AWR (American Wrestling Rampage) passes through France. This year, the tour is exceptional as for the first time each show includes a cage match, hence the name of the tour: "Twisted steel tower 2010."

It was 4:45 p.m. when the wrestlers arrived from Bordeaux, after a quite stressful bus journey. This was just a quarter of an hour before the show. Very little time for these modern day gladiators to warm up and give us a good show .... Yet contrary to all reasonable expectation, they gave us 200%, despite the fatigue, delighting an audience of 2,000 fans who had travelled from around the region to see them in action.

Among the audience, lots of children, thinking of only one thing: how to get close to their idols for a closer look, even try to touch them, apparently the ultimate goal! Among the wrestlers, the focus of attention are American legends young and old - King Booker (also known as the Booker T), Sylvain Grenier and Rene Dupree (former members of the WWE tag team La Resistance), Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, Shawn Daivari, Scott Steiner, Sandman ...

The MC is none other than Célian Varini, well known for his French langauage television and DVD reviews of TNA (Total Nonstop Action).

The first wrestler to make his ring entrance is Justin Shape, arriving straight from the gym (he tells us and given his insistence, we do not doubt not a minute). He is accompanied by the charming (and I use the word discretely) Rachelle St. Clair. Unfortunately for them, their opponent is as much brute as living legend: SANDMAN. The second fight has another veteran WWE wrestler Charlie Haas in a match against All Japan Pro-Wrestling's KAI. After a hard match, it's still the U.S. in the winning seat.

Next comes a French representative in the form of Sylvain Grenier, a former member of La Resistance, a tag-team that was at its height a few years ago in the WWE. He arrives flying the French flag, which does not displease ... His opponent is Christian Rabbe. The French fans are clearly well pleased with Sylvain's victory.

In the next match CAP, an English wrestler found himself up against former WWE superstar Shelton Benjamin with the crowd chanting "Let's go Shelty B", even though CAP is the "face" in the ring. After a furious and acrobatic match, Shelton prevails but demonstrates a welcome humility at the end by acknowledging his opponent before leaving the ring. A nice moment.

The following intermission allows the cage to be set up around the ring. Impressive to see how quickly it's done! The audience takes a deep breath as we wonder who will be crazy enough to compete in the cage ... ..

The evening resumes. Célian Varini announces the arrival of the Iranian Daivari. The latter, who has won the title the previousl evening in Bordeaux, is very full of himself, defying anyone to take his title. A moment of anxiety for the fans .... Who will enter the cage against Daivari? The rules are simple - to win, you must exit the cage either by climbing over the top, or exiting through the door. We hear a siren and then ..... Scott Steiner, Big Poppa Pump emerges. Davari panics and tries to cancel the match but it's too late. The cage is locked and now strength will prevail over arrogance and Scotty wins the title, exiting quietly through the door ...

It takes a few minutes to disassemble the cage. We nowto be entertained by a tag team contest! In both corners of the ring, two men and a woman! First team to enter the arena: Johnny Moss, Sir Paul Tracey, and Shanna. They get booed by the audience. Their opponents: the charismatic Delicous Dunkan, and Shawn Maxer and the sublime April Hunter! Two thousand people in the Dome chose their favourites. Unfortunately, it's the bad boys (and girl) who prevail with the Portuguese Shanna making the cover on April.

Now we come to "maint event" as they say across the Atlantic! The "battle of all battles" as we say in France. The multiple champion in many American federations (WWE, WCW, TNA ...) appearing under the pseudonym King Booker arrives to the cheers of the crowd. But these cheers are nothing compared to those reserved for the current AWR champion Rene Dupree. The second representative of France tonight at Marseilles, the crowd goes crazy for Dupree. The fight is exceptional as befits the quality of the opponents. The King, seeing no way out for himself, tries to knock out René with the championship belt, leading to his disqualification by the referee. A bloodied Rene retains the title! Beautiful performance.

Well, that's what you experienced if you were there, or what you missed if you did not come the Dome on 11 November 2010. An amazing show, presented by Célian Varini, surrounded by numerous stars from the world of wrestling. Tonight proves that the AWR still has many good years ahead of it bif it continues to offer us such cards. 'BIG NAMES JUST PHONING IT IN' - CRITIC

AndréTHEgiant watched the Bordeaux show and reported in F'N forum that the big name stars, perhaps jet lagged, were sleepwalking through their matches leaving the under card to provide all the eneregy and excitement. Here's his original report in French with an English translation following ....

Résultats Bordeaux du 10 novembre

Sandman def. Justin Shape: A part l'entrée du Sandman, pas grand chose à dire, match trés court, proche du Comedy Wrestling.

No Limits Championship Match
Daïvari def. Delicious Dunkan (c): Un bon match, bien rythmé, avec deux lutteurs qui se sont bien donnés. Victoire dirty de Daïvari.

Christian Raber & April Hunter def. Paul Tracy & Shanna: Pas grandiose mais pas désagréable. Raber à un beau physique et une bonne présence, il pourrait faire quelque chose sur le circuit indépendant.

Kaï def Pac: Un peu court mais un trés bon combat entre Pac toujours ausssi bondissant et Kaï, efficace dans son rôle de Heel.

Steel Cage Match
Scott Steiner def. Booker T: Franchement pas terrible. Malgré un brawl de départ à l'extérieur, une fois dans la cage, ça se calme. Service minimum pour Scott Steiner, Booker en donne un peu plus, heureusement parce que sinon ça valait zéro.

Triple Threat Match
Omen def. Shawn Maxer & Johnny Moss:Ca remonte un peu le niveau mais c'est pas top non plus. Shawn Maxer est le meilleur des trois, rapide, technique et aérien.

Main Event
La Resistance (René Duprée & Sylvain Grenier) def The world greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas): Là encore, assez décevant. Sheltie B. et Charlie ménent en bon Heel en se concentrant sur Sylvain puis entrée en jeu de Renée et victoire rapide. Trés moyen, en étant indulgent.

Appréciation:
Au niveau du In-Ring, la première partie du show est bien meilleur que la deuxième. Les stars sont là pour toucher leur cachet et font le minimum. Les autres donnent des combats beaucoup plus convaincants.
Heureusement qu'entre les matchs, on a quelques bons moments, notamment la présentation de Booker qui commence au micro comme un Face avant de demander aux gamins contre les barrières de reculer d'un pas car il ne veut surtout pas être touché par eux, surtout le petit Punk en T-Shirt blanc. Il descend ensuite du ring et va insulter le pauvre petit gars.
Dans l'ensemble, un show moyen mais quand on habite Bordeaux, on a peu d'occasion de voir de la lutte, donc on apprécie quand même.

Daivari def. Delicious Dunkan (c): A good match, well paced, with two wrestlers who gave it their all. Daivari wins with a foul.

Christian Raber & April Hunter def. Paul Tracy & Shanna: Not great but not too bad. Raber has a fine physique and a good presence; he could do something big on the independent circuit.

Kai def. Pac: A bit short but a very good fight between Pac always in the air and Kai, effective in his role as Heel.

Steel Cage Match
Scott Steiner def. Booker T: Honestly, not too good. Despite a wild brawl starting out, once in the cage, it all settled down. Minimum effort by Scott Steiner, with Booker giving a little more, fortunately because otherwise it was worthless.

Triple Threat Match
Omen def. Shawn Maxer & Johnny Moss: This gtws things back on course but it's not top level either. Shawn Maxer is the best of three, fast, technical and flying.

Main Event
La Resistance (Rene Dupree & Sylvain Grenier) defeated The Worlds Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas): Again, very disappointing. Sheltie B. and Charlie are the heels, focusing first on Sylvain then Rene comes into play for a quick victory. Speaking kindly, it was very average.

Summary:
In-Ring, the first part of the show is much better than the second. The stars are there to collect their money and do the minimum. The others give a much more compelling performance.
Fortunately there are some nice touches between matches, including Booker on the microphone asking the kids at the barrier tostep back because he does not want to be touched by them, especially the little Punk in the white T-Shirt. He then comes down from the ring to insult the poor kid.
Overall, an average show, but when you live in Bordeaux, there is little opportunity to live wrestling that we appreciate it anyway.

Daivari captured the No Limits Division title in Bordeaux last Wednesday night. He defeated Dunkan Disorderly in a hard-fought match to win the belt.
Rene Dupree defended his AWR Championship against Booker T in Marseille on Thursday. In the end Rene picked up a victory via DQ after the challenger used the AWR belt as a weapon.
Also in Marseille, Shelton Benjamin defeated PAC and The Sandman defeated Justin Shape.

Tonight in Grenoble, Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin face Sylvan Grenier and Rene Dupree, and Booker T will take on Scott Steiner inside a Steel Cage!

Shape criticizes France and the fans, claiming there is nobody here who can compete with him. Sandman enters through the audience, opens some beers, and lights a cigarette and enters the ring.....

- The Sandman defeats Justin Shape with a Kendo stick shot to the head.

Célian Varini announces that tonight Resistance (Sylvain Grenier & Rene Dupree) will reform. Sylvain and Rene come to the ring to greet the Bordeaux fans and are joined by the World's Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas). Haas challenges La Resistance to take on the world's greatest tag team, the challenge is accepted and we have our main event.

- No Limits Division Championship: Daivari defeats "Delicious" Dunkan (c) with feet on the ropes, to became the new No Limits champion.

- Mixed Tag Team "Bambikiller" Christian Raber & April Hunter beat "Lord of the Manor" Paul Tracey & Shanna after a Roll Up by April on Shanna.

Booker T comes to the ring, adresses the fans as peasants, says his opponent is a young French wrestler and he is going to kick his ass. But it's Scott Steiner not a Frenchwrestler who comes down the ramp. Booker attacks Scott as soon as he steps into the ring, but after that Scott takes over and Booker runs for cover. Steiner announces that tonight he will face Booker in a cage match.

- KAI beats Pac with a Roll Up.

Break, they take the opportunity to build the cage.

- Cage Match: Scott Steiner defeats Booker T inof the cage.

- 3 Way: Omen defeats Johnny Moss & Shawn after a Black Hole Maxer Driver on Maxer.

Nianing reports -Je rajouterais que ca a mis un moment avant que le Sandman arrive, les projecteurs allaient dans tous les sens.
Daivari a battu Dunkan grâce à une powerbomb des cordes et a mis ses pieds sur les cordes.
La WGTT pour sa première apparition s'est tapé la plus belle pop.
Pendant le discours de Shape, un gars a crié "ASSHOOOOOLE !" mdr
Varini qui précise qu'Hunter a posé plusieurs fois pour Playboy
Booker T commence par faire un discours typiquement face, puis demande aux enfants de faire un pas en arrière du ring. Puis il précise que c'est car il est le roi "Eeeh oui, il a repris sa gimmick de King Booker". Quand Steiner l'a défié, il a dit que si Booker ne venait pas, il serait viré.
Au cage match, Booker a attaqué Steiner par derrière pendant son entrée, s'ensuit un brawl avec des chaises en plastoc, puis Booker place 4 fois son Kick, une fois son Scissors Kick mais il sort par la porte super lentement, donc là tu comprends que Steiner gagne. Gros bordel pour défaire la cage, Varini qui essaye de combler le démontage (on peut dire ? ^^) par des paroles. Steiner passe par la porte.
Dans le Triple Threat, Omen a craché du feu sur les deux participants, puis a fait un codebreaker, ce à quoi un gars du public a crié "Jericho, sors de ce corps !!"
Dans le M-E, la WGTT a essayé de fuir mais la résistance les a rattrapé.

Aux dédicaces, c'est un peu la merde, tout le monde double mais je parle un petit peu à chaque catcheur, notamment à Pac qui me demande qui sont mes catcheurs préférés à la WWE, je réponds Evan Bourne, John Morrison, Kofi Kingston .. Que des high flyers en général quoi, puis il me dit qu'il est très amis avec Evan Bourne et qu'il a catché plusieurs fois avec lui.
Booker a signé mon affiche, je lui dis que même si c'est moche ca vient du coeur xD
Et tout ça en anglais bien sur.

Je mettrais ma pancarte et l'affiche dédicacée après.

L'American Wrestling Rampage de retour en France à partir de mercredi

L'American Wrestling Rampage est de retour en France, et ce à partir de mercredi pour une tournée d'environ dix jours. La tournée, intitulée "Twisted Steel", verra chaque show avoir droit à son Steel Cage Match.

Sont annoncés pour la tournée : René Duprée (AWR World Champion), "Delicious" Dunkan (AWR No Limits Champion), Booker T, Scott Steiner, Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Hass, The Sandman, Daivari, Sylvain Grenier, Pac, Nosawa, Kai, Justin Shape, Omen, Shawn Maxer, Johnny Moss, Christian Raber, Paul Tracey, April Hunter, Shanna, Rachelle St. Claire.

It's looking increasingly likely that Sylvan Grienier and Rene Dupre (reforming the La Resistance) will face off against Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas in Bordeaux this Wednesday night.

One of the big news going into the “Twisted Steel” tour is the fact that Rene Dupre and Sylvan Greinier will re-unite, reforming their ‘Resistance’ team. However, Rene is still the AWR Champion and he will be expected to defend his title? Rumours have it that when AWR lands in Bordeaux for the first show of the tour, Rene will be told who will be challenging him that night for the title. However, AWR management are keeping it under tight wraps as to who the challenger will be.

Perhaps the number 1 contender will be a former World Champion. Booker T and Scott Steiner’s names come to mind. Or even The Sandman who held the ECW World Title in the past. Other likely candidates include Daivari, who has been very impressive in recent years. The last title he held was the X-Division Title in TNA Wrestling. And Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas could also challenge the champ. The wildcard is Sylvan Greinier, Rene’s tag team partner. Perhaps AWR will be looking to throw a spanner in the works? Unfortunately we don’t expect to find out until November 10th in Bordeaux along with everyone else. However if we at AWRwrestling.com hear anything more on this, we’ll be sure to break the news here.

AWR have just announced that Shelton Benjamin will be part of the “Twisted Steel” tour in France this November. This comes days after the announcement that Charlie Haas will also be a part of the tour. Benjamin and Haas debuted in WWE several years ago as a tag team (known as The World’s Greatest Tag Team) and enjoyed great success there, becoming tag team champions. Rene Goguen, best known for his stint in World Wrestling Entertainment as Rene Dupree, recently had an online interview and discussed his overseas professional wrestling in Japan.

“The culture, the fact that it’s pure wrestling,”Rene Dupree told Greg Oliver, the producer of SLAM! Wrestling. “It’s not bullsh*t sports entertainment, where you have to talk in front of a f*cking camera and have writers. It’s pure wrestling. I was miserable the last three years I was in WWE, I was miserable, I hated it, because it’s all politics. You have to kiss ass.”

“In Japan, all you’ve got to do, is you’ve got to work hard, you’ve got to look good, and that’s it,” Dupree added about working in All Japan Pro Wrestling. “And that’s what wrestling is all about. It’s about the performance. It’s not about how big you are, or how good of a promo you can cut. It’s about if you can deliver in the ring. And that’s pure wrestling.”

Mirande. Vrais faux méchants et vrais gentils

Ils sont venus, ils étaient tous là les catcheurs annoncés. Légère déception pour les organisateurs du Basket-Club mirandais, le public n'a pas rempli la Poudrière autant qu'ils l'espéraient. Un public avec de nombreux enfants venus voir « la tornade de la Réunion », White Storm ; le Russe de Tchernobyl, Deathrow, « défiguré à cause de l'explosion de Tchernobyl », qui n'est donc plus un junior, annoncé comme un « monstre sanguinaire » ; Matt Waughn, « guerrier venu d'Ecosse » ; John Grisham qu'on « n'aimerait pas croiser dans la rue » ; Stixx, « le bagarreur de Nottinham » ; T. Bone, de Birmingham, « une bête féroce » ; Derice Coffe, de Dublin, qui « aime la haute voltige » ; Tristan Archer, un Français au visage d'ange trompeur car c'est un diable. A ces huit champions il faut ajouter les catcheuses Amy Morgan, véritable « vipère du ring », et Brittany Knight, la « Paris Hilton du catch », et les deux stars, le Mexicain El Ligero et surtout René Duprée à la carrure impressionnante que les joueurs de l'EAB XV présents dans la salle aimeraient bien avoir à leur côté les dimanches de championnat !

Douze athlètes pour cinq combats dont 1 à 4 et un féminin, et pour finir un « championnat » d'Europe terminé dans la confusion la plus totale, bien la tradition du catch, avec arbitre KO, retour des catcheurs du combat précédent et poursuite dans le public ! Dans le public, les enfants étaient partagés. Certains avaient peur, d'autres s'approchaient pour voir de plus près mais aucun n'était indifférent.

Le spectacle terminé, ces « monstres », ces « bagarreurs » ces « guerriers », ces bêtes féroces, sont redevenus des personnes d'une courtoisie, d'une disponibilité, d'une gentillesse et d'une patience extrêmes pour signer des autographes, se faire photographier avec les enfants et leurs mamans et la fatigue qu'on lisait sur leurs visages montrait bien qu'ils avaient donné le meilleur d'eux-mêmes. De vrais faux méchants et de vrais gentils.

Le Canadien René Duprée, ancien champion WWE (World wrestling enter tainment) par équipe, sera la grande attraction du gala organisé ce soir à Mirande. PHOTO DR

A chaque été son gala. L'année dernière, c'était à Bretagne-d'Armagnac. Un gala sympathique, peut-être un poil désuet, qui avait tout de même rassemblé des centaines de fanas et curieux. Cette fois-ci, Mirande s'y colle. Et c'est du gros, du costaud, du lourd qui doit débarquer dans le gymnase de la Poudrière, ce soir, à partir de 21 heures. Du catch à l'américaine, comme à la télé, avec des biceps et abdos saillants, du tatouage protubérant et des prises improbables jusque tard dans la nuit.

Sur le ring, en guest star venue tout droit du Japon, le Canadien René Duprée. Pas forcément très viril comme nom. Et pourtant, l'ancien champion WWE (World wrestling entertainment, le gratin du catch mondial) par équipe aux États-Unis, a le muscle proéminent, luisant et le regard du type qu'il ne faut pas trop contrarier. Peut-être même gratifiera-t-il le public de sa célèbre prise de finition : le « bonsoir », en français dans le texte, qui cloue son adversaire au sol… À voir.

La Paris Hilton anglaise

Autour de lui, une dizaine de catcheurs et catcheuses, tous professionnels, venus d'Europe (Angleterre, Irlande, Écosse ou France) ou d'Amérique. Parmi eux, le Mexicain El Ligero affublé de son masque à cornes ou la Britannique Brittany Knight, dite la Paris Hilton de Norwich !

Mais pourquoi donc un gala de cette ampleur à Mirande, d'ordinaire plus dévolu aux inconditionnels de la country ? L'événement est organisé par le club de basket-ball local en partenariat avec le mensuel « Planète Catch », basé à Toulouse. « Nous avions besoin d'argent pour financer le nouveau contrat d'un de nos éducateurs, explique Patrick Marsoo, coprésident du club. Et puis, j'ai rencontré par hasard un responsable du magazine qui a émis l'idée d'un grand gala… »

Grâce à la TNT et à quelques chaînes diffusant des combats de la WWE, le sport est en tout cas devenu très tendance, notamment du côté des jeunes générations. Figurines, cartes à collectionner ou DVD ornent désormais les rayons des centres commerciaux.

Jusqu'à 1 500 personnes sont attendues dans l'arène de la Poudrière en soirée qui, habituellement, reçoit les filles du ping-pong. Changement radical. Car, contrairement à ce qui se dit, le catch n'a rien d'une comédie, même si les combats sont en grande partie scénarisés. « Les coups sont portés, explique Arnaud Vedel, de « Planète Catch ». Cela reste un grand spectacle car les catcheurs, qui sont des sportifs de haut niveau, se connaissent bien et savent anticiper. Mais ils se font bien mal. » Ouf…

All Japan to partner with AWR

All Japan Pro Wrestling has announced that it will partner with American Wrestling Rampage, a professional wrestling group based in Ireland , as part of its planned global expansion. According to All Japan's Public Relations Director Uchida, All Japan sees it major future Asian expansion occurring in Taiwan. In Europe it hopes to work alongside AWR which has run several successful tours in Europe (Ireland, France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and Eastern Europe) featuring stars such as RVD, Sabu and Rene Dupree. Joey Cabray, representing AWR said he had high expectations of the relationship with All Japan. In an exclusive interview for www.kombat.ro, Canadian Rene Dupree speaks about wrestling, how sports entertainment has become popular in Eastern Europe and what advice he has for those who want to get into wrestling .

Rep: We're talking with Rene Dupree, former WWE champion team, the youngest in history. How do you like Romania?

Dupree: It's a beautiful country, I haven't had much opportunity to go out a lot, but it looks great.

Rep: How long have you been on the road?

Dupree: Far too long. On this tour, about three weeks

Rep: What's the most difficult part of being a wrestler?

Dupree: The hardest part is to get to sleep at night. Seriously

Rep: And the best part?

Dupree: Appearing in front of people.

Rep.: How do you like American Wrestling Rampage?

Dupree: It's the best company I've worked with, very professional. We're one big family.

Rep.: You work a lot in Japan. Do you prefer, Japan or Europe?

Dupree: Europe is fun, but Japan is my heaven.

Dupree: Culture, respect, landscape

Rep: What's great in Europe?

Rep: Why do you think wrestling is so popular in Eastern Europe without any past history or wrestling tradition here?

Dupree: Wrestling is a roller-coaster. Its popularity goes up and down. Wherever you go at the moment in Europe, wrestling seems to be fashionable, but in a few years it may not be.

Rep.: Many people say that wrestling is just for Americans, Mexican or Japanese. But now it's become a global phenomenon.

Dupree: I grew up in Canada, in a wrestling family, very much like Bret Hart. We were on the east coast. For me wrestling means life. Through it, I eat and pay my bills. It's a family tradition.

Rep: For those who want to get into wrestling, would you advise them to go ahead or try something else?

Dupree: Be sure you really want to do it, because it's not an easy life. It's very difficult, and you have to make quite a few sacrifices. But if it's something that really grabs you, then go with it - otherwise, I'd suggest, stay away.

In front of 3,600 fans, RVD and Dupree had a half hour epic battle. In the end, Dupree was able to defeat RVD to re-capture the Championship making him a 2 Time AWR Champion.

REFLECTING ON SOFIA UNIVERSITY SHOW AND THE POWER OF THE CROWD

A straightforward match in which the audience had much to contribute - both in creating the atmosphere and influencing the performance of both wrestlers. I have in mind the fact that Dupree was supposed to be a pure heel ... but instead because of this audience (through two or three times chanting "LET'S GO DUPREE" turned Rene into 'tweener. As proof of this, RVD was seen several times shaking the ring ropes in frustration.

It was a perfect ending to the entire evening - to see how, thanks to you and those around you, you can actually help change a preset scenario and become directly involved in determining how the whole evening proceeds.

Generalizing to other things, rope culture: entertainment- whether we talk about "posing" on the entrance ramp, or "posing" in the ring or simple things like oiling the body or wearing wet hair that allows a wrestler to "detonate a cloud of tiny droplets" or to "spit a tooth" when punched in the face (as in Rene's match) - all these details contribute positively to the overall perception of the show. Additionally, why is the audience an important part of a show?

Well, very simply, if it is "asleep", then the wrestlers also "sleep" ... What do I mean? Just at the moment when someone in the crowd felt obliged to begin to clap, to encourage a face to escape faster from a grip, then the match could go ahead, full steam. I think this was true especially for theJoe E. Legend vs Paul Tracey match and got them to stir their asses in the ring. Such is the power of the crowd.

Как да е, тук, мисля, пореден мач в който публиката допринесе адски много за атмосферата и представянето на двамата кечисти, като имам предвид факта, че Dupree трябваше да е чист heel а наместо това заради тази публика (все пак два-три пъти cross chant-а "Let's Go Dupree!" / "RVD!" се получи добре) го игра tweener, като доказателството за това бе как RVD се провеси от ринга и го дръпна за да се здрависа с него. Това бе перфектен завършек на шоуто - да видиш как благодарение на теб и тези около теб реално един вид "променяш сценария" на същото шоу и директно ставаш участник вътре в него. Усещането бе невероятно, дори смея да твърдя, че до този момент като се сетя за него и ми става едно такова топло. :blink:

Да обобщя други неща, които ми направиха много силно впечатление и явно са се вкоренили адски много в цялостната кеч култура между въжетата: entertainment-а бе силно застъпен, независимо дали говорим за "позирането" при entrance-ите на кечистие, на "позирането" им на ринга или на това, как елементарни работи като това, да се намажат с нещо от което телата им да лъскат (и съответно да ти приковават вниманието) оттам предварителнои да са си намокрили косите, за да може като ги тръснат около тях да "избухне" облак от миниатюрни капчици, до "изплюването на зъб" при някой и друг шут или удар в лицето определено допринасяха за цялостното възприемане на шоуто, и то в положителен аспект. Друго - защо публиката е толкова важна част от едно шоу? Ами много просто, ако тя е "заспала" и кечистите "заспиват"... с rest hold-ове. Какво имам предвид? Просто в моментите, когато някой вкараше такъв се чувствах длъжен да започна да пляскам, за да може face-а да се измъкне по-бързо от захвата и мача да продължи с пълна пара. Мисля, че това важи най-вече за Joe E. Legend vs Paul Tracey мача, а и самите кечисти се кефеха на това някой да ги кара да си размърдат задниците по ринга.
Нещото което ми липсваше, а определено можеше да повдигне градуса между мачовете, бе някое и друго промо, но - да не ставам нахален. :happy:

Роб Ван Дам, Екс Пак и Горещия Скоти се развихриха в столичната зала "Универсиада", давайки на българския кеч фен уникалната възможност да види и докосне блясъка на един спорт нахлул в сърцата на стотици още през 2002 година, предаде репортер на Novsport.com.

Светлинното шоу и разпалените фенове напомняха на онези вечери преди години, когато Екс Пак, като част от легендарната Дегенерация Екс, се изправяше в свирепи битки с маси, стълби и столове срещу братята Харди, Дъдли, Острието и Крисчън. Сега той в екип с друга звезда от някогашната WWF - Горещия Скоти се разправи с набиращите скорост в AWR Шугър Бойс.

Още по-категорична бе в изявите си бе красивата Ейприл Хънтър, която обаче бе измамена от находчивата Порша Перес. Въпреки загубата в мача Ейприл обра овациите на феновете, показвайки, че дамите умеят не по-зле от зрелищни кечисти като маскираният Омен да печелят сърцата на публиката.

В един от мачовете малкия и симпатичен Маскарита Саграда подлуди феновете в залата с изпълненията си - стил Рей Мистерио. Като в едно истинско кеч шоу и зрителите имаха своя принос. По време на всичките битки те подкрепяха своите любимци и дори групички привърженици влизаха в кратки разправии с ядосаните "лоши". Главният мач на вечерта изправи на крака феновете в "Универсиада".

Роб Ван Дам, "Господин Понеделник Вечер", майсторът на акробатични хватки деминстрира най-доброто от себе си срещу "Френския феномен" Рене Дюпре. Двубоят завърши с "петзведно жабешкото цамбурване" - хватка, която са аплодирали феновете на шоуто по цял свят.

И след като България видя на живо "Червея" на Скоти и "Жабешкото цамбурване" на РВД кеч звездите показаха, че тяхната "Европейска инвазия" е постигнала целта си. The AWR title match between Rene Dupree (c) and Rob Van Dam got the expected reaction, and proved to be spectacular, seasoned by the intervention of two K1 fighters. This outside interference was another characteristic element of this fantastic show.

For me the match was an unforgettable experience, and by pure luck I was also booked into the same hotel as the wrestlers, sitting in their company until later in the night after the show. The wrestlers outside the ring were incredibly modest, honest and straightforward, eager in conversation, inviting me to their table, exchanging opinions and shouting drinks. Shawn Maxer showed me his talent at pool, in two games, one win for me and one for him. Sean Waltman had a superb character, his behavior and things he told me, led me to say to him "Man, you're a great person."

Rene Dupree, a man as nice, very nice, despite the fact that in real life he seems at first sight, but only at first sight, a stiff neck.....

Se putea si fara interventia respectiva,dar nu pot sa spun nici ca a fost nepotrivita,punctand inca un element caracteristic acestui spectacol fantastic,outside interference.
Pentru mine a fost o experienta de neuitat,asta si pentru ca din pur noroc am nimerit la acelasi hotel cu ei,stand in compania lor pana tarziu,in noaptea de dupa gala.Wrestlerii din afara ringului erau niste oameni incredibil de modesti,sinceri si simpli,dornici de conversatie,care m-au invitat la masa lor,schimband pareri si stand la taifasuri. Shawn Maxer mi-a demonstrat talentul lui la biliard,in doua jocuri,unul castigat de mine si unul de el. Sean Waltman mi s-a parut un om cu un caracter superb,comportarea lui si lucrurile care mi le-a spus facandu-ma sa ii spun in fata "Man,you're a great person" . Rene Dupree,un om la fel de placut,foarte de treaba,in ciuda faptului ca si in viata reala pare la prima vedere,dar doar la prima vedere,un om arogant. Nu este.RVD,Scotty,April,atat cat si piticii Mascarita Sagrada si Bracito de Plata nu au stat deloc la barul hotelului,ci au urcat direct in camere. Raven nu si-a facut nici el prea mult aparitia la bar,dupa ce a revenit din camera a plecat undeva cu un taxi,impreuna cu Dupree,ducandu-se la un club de striptease dupa cum am aflat ulterior dintr-un ziar. The Sofia Echo (Bulgaria) for Monday 7 December reports -

"On December 6 2009, the American Wrestling Rampage (AWR) put up a great show in Sofia's Universiada Hall on the second day of its Bulgaria tour. The previous day, the US wrestlers performed in the Black Sea city of Varna.

The two Bulgarian shows were the closing events of AWR's "European Invasion" tour, which started in France on November 17 2009 and continued in Germany and Romania before coming to Bulgaria.

The tour featured AWR champion Rene Dupree, Rob Van Dam, Sid, Raven, Sabu, X-Pacc, The Briscoe Brothers and many more top names from around the globe. Bret "Hitman" Hart made several appearances in Germany during the tour."

First ever wrestling event in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.

The hall holds about 1800 people and there were around 700 fans.

1) Scotty 2 Hotty & Xpac vs. The Delicious Dudes
- Nice opener, Scotty and Xpac were very over with the crowd (playing the faces) and the Dudes (playing gays) quickly accumulated HUGE heat. Scotty played the "face in peril" role for most of the match until Xpac came in and cleaned house. We got to see the X-factor and The Worm! In the end, Scotty & Xpac won to the delight of the crowd.

2) Potia Perez vs. April Hunter
- Not much wrestling here, but a lot of fun. April was almost 1 foot higher that Portia and handled her with ease. The crowd was very hot for this match, which appealed to the divas and they played to it (well, at least April, who was the face). In the end, while April was kicking the ass of Portia's trainer, Portia rolled her with a schoolgirl for the surprise heel win.

3) Joe Legend vs. Paul Tracey
- Tracey portrayed an aristocrat who was heel and received much, much heat. He even threatened one of my friends to hit him with his cane! Joe Legend received a big pop and even thanked me and several of my friend for chanting "YOU ARE LEGEND" towards him! The match itself was VERY good and the longest of the evening. It had many twists and near falls. At one point, Joe went outside the ring, and while holding Paul, let several kids in the front rows hit him in the head!!! In the end, Joe won after a dramatic succesion of finishers from both wrestlers.

4) No limits Championship - Pac (c) vs. El Generico
- El Generico played the heel and showed middle fingers to the audience, and even kicked the hand of one kid that was trying to high-five him on his entrance! Pac was the mega-face here. After all, the match was long and dramatic. Pac retained the title and played to the crowd.

5) Omen vs. Suicide Machine
- Pretty weird stuff here - Suicide was about 120 pounds, seriously! On the other hand, Omen was at least a 280-pound masked monster! Omen dominated most of the match and near the end, Suicide leapt off the third rope and TWISTED his ankle in half (much like Sid in WCW). The ref made the X-sign to stop the match, officials rushed the ring and Omen looked in shock. All of us thought that Suicide really broke his leg! In the end, however, Omen attacked him on the ramp (while medics were escorting him), brought him to the ring and delivered a Codebreaker and a Backstabber to him! After that - 1,2,3 and the monster heel won.

6) Mexican minis match - Mascarita Sagrada vs. Bracito De Plata
- Unfortunately, this match was not sufficiently appreciated by the audience, because most of it had never seen a Mexican minis match. The match itself was nice, with some good aerial action. In the end, Sagrada performed the 6-1-9 and won.

7) AWR heavyweight title - RVD (c) vs. Rene Dupree
Not surprisingly, RVD was the MEGA-star of the evening and received a deafening pop. However, Rene was surprised by some of us chanting "French Phenom! French Phenom!" at him and waving the French flag. That I think changed the course of the match and he, seeing that he had fan support, switched from heel to tweener. The atmosphere of the main-event was incredible - half of the crowd chanted RVD, and the other - Dupree. In the end, RVD won with the Rolling thunder and Five star frog splash.

8) Autograph session - a nicely put-up session after the show, with all of the fans receiving photos and autographs from all wrestlers. Only Rene Dupree and Sucidide machine were not at the session.

Show de zile mari, vineri seara, la Sala Polivalentă. Sosite pentru prima oară în România, superstarurile World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) au încins atmosfera la maximum şi au provocat delir.

În cadrul galei au participat 24 de luptători, însă cei cu cea mai mare priză la public au fost cunoscuţii Rob Van Dam, Sid Vicious, X-Pac, Rene Dupree şi Raven.

Siliconata April Hunter, fosta vedetă Playboy, a urcat şi ea în ring şi i-a isterizat pe fani, la fel ca şi Andrei "Călăul" Dumitru şi Vasile "Călugărul" Popovici, primii români participanţi.

Cel mai tare moment al show-ului s-a produs când campionul WWE Rene Dupree l-a provocat pe spectatorul Cătălin Moroşanu.

Atitudinea lui Cătălin Moroşanu a fost apludată la scena deschisă de public

„Ştiu că printre noi se află şi un star român de K1", a spus Dupree, după care a pronunţat cu accent franţuzesc numele mic al luptătorului de la Iaşi.

"Catarin este un nume de fată în Franţa". Când Moroşanu a dat semne că se enervează, Dupree l-a împins cu braţul drept. Românul a reacţionat imediat.

A azvârlit masa la care stătea şi l-a trântit cu putere pe wrestler. Apoi s-a dus după el să-i aplice o corecţie, dar forţele de ordine şi-au făcut rapid apariţia în sală şi l-au salvat pe francez.

Vineri, 4 decembrie, Sala Polivalenta din Bucuresti a programat prima gala de wresling disputata vreodata in Romania, printre starurile prezente la show numarandu-se April Hunter, Rob Van Dam, Sid Vicious, X-Pac, Rene Dupree si Raven.

Cel mai spectaculos moment al galei l-a reprezentat infruntarea dintre Rene Dupree si vedeta K1, Catalin Morosanu, prezent si el in sala, in calitate de spectator.
Francezul i-a ironizat numele lui Catalin, iar acesta, vadit enervat de situatie l-a impins cu putere pe wrestler, incercand chiar sa-i aplice o corectie dura.

In cele din urma fortele de ordine prezente la Polivalenta au intervenit, punand capat conflictului creat de cei doi sportivi.

Scandal la prima gala de wrestling din Romania: Morosanu a sarit la bataie!

Spectacol american în Bucureşti, sâmbătă seara, la Sala Polivalentă. Prima gală de wrestling din România a fost una electrizantă. Avândul ca mastru de ceremonii pe vulcanicul Radu Valahu, şi invitaţi speciali pe Cătălin Moroşanu şi Radu Pietreanu (de la Vacanţa Mare), show-ul a fost total.

În premieră pentru România, sala Polivalenta şi-a deschis braţele pentru un spectacol de wrestling şi pentru fanii săi. Deşi tribunele nu au fost pline din cauza preţului ridicat al biletelor, gala American Wrestling Rampage Bucreşti va rămâne o amintire plăcută pentru cei care au venit. Salturi de pe corzile ringului, lovituri usturătoare şi întărâtarea publicului a fost reţeta wrestlerilor pentru a-şi atrage atât huiduile cât şi valuri de aplauze.

"Moroşanu are nume de fată"

Toată asistenţa a explodat, în momentul în care una din vedetele serii, Rene Dupree l-a provocat pe unul dintre invitaţii de onoare ai galei, luptătorul de K1, Cătălin Moroşanu. Francezul a ironizat "Moartea din Carpaţi" spunând că în Franţa, Cătălin este nume de fapă. Spiritele s-au incins imediat, iar după câteva cuvinte grele s-a trecut la contact fizic. Bodyguarzii au intervenit, iar spiritele s-au calmat, dar asistenţa a continuat să fiarbă. Dupa încheierea disputei, specatacolul şi-a urmat cursul continând să încânte până la ultima sfârşitul ultimei lupte.

Lupte între fete

A doua luptă a galei a fost una indedită. În ea s-au confruntat două fete, Portia Perez şi vedeta Playboy, April Hunter. Încăierarea a fost pe placul bărbaţilor care s-au delectat cu formele apetisantei April, care a fost declarată ulterior şi învingătoare.

A lot of controversy among fans on this, with most giving Dupree full credit for putting over the local guys.

AWR is getting a lot of publicity in Bulgaria (reports By Phil Lions on 2009-12-03) Last night Rene & Portia were guests on the most popular Bulgarian late night talk show

then early this morning they made an appearance on another very popular talk show and also did multiple other interviews with the media in Bulgaria throughout the day.

Several hours ago there was an official press conference with Dupree and Perez that aired live on national TV (on a cable network that gets decent viewership) and was then replayed a couple of hours after that. There wasn't anything particularly newsworthy at the press conference, just regular questions about the wrestlers themselves, the show and wrestling as a whole.

I'd expect that there'd be even more media attention later tonight in various news broadcasts as well as tomorrow in the newspapers. This is the first professional wrestling show in Bulgaria since the days of catch-as-catch-can wrestling, although almost no one is actually aware of that fact and so the show is talked about as being the "first ever pro wrestling event in Bulgaria". WWE has been on Bulgarian TV since fall 2000 (with a pause from mid 2002 till fall 2005) and they get pretty good viewership but they've yet to tour the country. So, this being the first professional wrestling event in Bulgaria is kind of a big deal in the Bulgarian media.

The ticket prices are pretty high for the Bulgarian market, most of the wrestlers on the show are not that well known in the country and the local advertising campaign wasn't very strong but at least now AWR is getting a lot of publicity. It remains to be seen whether or not all that publicity would translate into ticket sales
though (AWR's running a 2000 seat building). Also, there was a second show scheduled for Bulgaria but it recently got cancelled due to various reasons so now all the people with tickets to that show can use their tickets for the other one that's taking place this Sunday.

With the France and Germany legs of the tour behind them, AWR is now heading for a show in Bucharest, Romania on December 4th, then Sofia, Bulgaria on December 6th and then back to France for a couple more shows there.

April ist schon ein echter Hingucker und Joe war ganz klarerer Publikumsfavorit und hat die Stimmung auch angeheizt. Wobei dies Rene auch getan hat in dem er mehrfach geflohen ist, eine Flasche Wasser ins Publikum gegossen und April attackiert hatte auch sehr gut und heeltypisch getan. Das Match selber war ein ständiges hin und her und in meinen Augen auch gut umgesetzt. Hat auf jedenfall Spaß gemacht. Finish war dann ein Schlag mit der französischen Fahne, wobei diese wohl etwas daneben ging. Denn Joe hielt sich das Auge, was anfangs wie ein Selling aussah, wirkte aber spätestens nachdem er sich versucht hat mit Wasser das Auge auszuwaschen realer als ihm wohl lieb sein dürfte. gutes Match, gute Stimmung.

April's been a real eye-catcher, and Joe was very clearly the audience favorite. Rene helped fuel the mood of the match acting as heel, escaping from the ring several times, pouring a bottle of water into the audience and attacking April - all great stuff in type casting himself as heel. The match itself was a constant back and forth and in my opinion, very well implemented. Finish was a blow with the French flag, and maybe something went wrong for Joe in what initially looked like a sell - but after a few minutes it looked like everything was OK with him. Good match, great atmosphere.

Rene Dupree hat sich dann erstmal bei der Entrance ganz derbe mit uns angelegt, erst schüttet er uns Wasser ins Gesicht (uuuhhh), doch 2 weitere wXw Fans und Ich dann im wXw Stil "Komm...Komm" und dann wurde es rabiat und Dupree fängt das Schupsen an und Köhler muss trennen. Weltklasse X-Pacc dann auch nur geil drauf, hat auch derbst Stimmung gemacht, hat Spaß gemacht der Mann. Erstmal hatte sich Dupree dann mit einem weiteren Fan angelegt um das Match rauszuzögern, X-Pacc holt ihn sich dann aber, und auf einmal bricht ein halber Shoot-Fight aus und die hauen sich ohne Gnade aufs Maul Ich hatte meinen Spaß, sie haben sich 4 Minuten um den Ring geprügelt, dann gings in den Ring, es gab nen Kick von Pacc, dann den X-Faktor, in dem Moment dreh ich mich zu Lordi und sag, oha cool schon der X-Faktor, und plötzlich 3 Count!? Ähm bitte? Was war denn hier los? 1. Hallo? Rene Dupree war vor ein paar Tagen noch der Träger der AWR, der World Heavyweight Champion und jetzt ist er nach EINER Aktion kampfunfähig? Absoluter Dreck. 2. Steht schon halb in 1 drin, was soll das Matchende denn bitte? Warum nur 5 Minuten, warum nach einer Aktion? J'ai personnellement adoré cette soirée ! J'ai pu voir catcher en vrai RVD, Raven, X-PACC et bien d'autres ^^ Et après, les matchs, les catcheurs se sont livrés à une séance dédicace ! Je suis donc reparti de là-bas avec un autographe de Raven, de RVD, de René Duprée et de Sabu ^^ De plus, les matchs étaient vraiment de bonnes qualités et je peux l'avouer, lors du match de RVD, j'ai gueuler comme un fou ! C'est fun, c'est qu'au début, j'étais loin du ring et en hauteur, à la fin, j'étais au deuxième rang juste à coté du ring x) Merci à un pote qui m'a dit qu'il y avait une place de libre à coté de la sienne ^^

Wenn am kommenden Freitag muskelbepackte Männer mit düsteren Blicken in die Donau-Arena einmarschieren, ist „Showtime“: Die „American Wrestling Rampage“ (AWR) feiert ihre Premiere in Regensburg. Moderne Gladiatorenkämpfer wie Bret „The Hitman“ Hart, Rob van Dam oder „Scotty 2 Hotty“ Waltman versprechen eine professionelle Show, bei der nicht der Wettkampf, sondern die Unterhaltung im Mittelpunkt steht. „Wrestling bietet Spaß und Entertainment. Es ist eine gute Gelegenheit, für einen Moment aus der realen Welt auszusteigen“, sagt Waltman im MZ-Gespräch.

Ablauf streng nach Drehbuch

Bemühten sich eifrige Manager in den 80er-Jahren noch, die „Kämpfe“ als echt zu verkaufen, ist heute längst Realität eingekehrt. Im Wrestling-Ring läuft alles streng nach Drehbuch ab. Den Zuschauern wird eine Geschichte erzählt, bei der sich gute und böse Menschen gegenüberstehen und um die Gunst des Publikums wetteifern. Durch hartes Training wird versucht, alles möglichst echt wirken zu lassen. Jeder Schlag, jeder Fall fordert das sportliche und schauspielerische Können der Aktiven.

Dass es sich in Wirklichkeit um eine Seifenoper im Ring handelt, gefällt nicht allen eingefleischten Wrestling-Fans. „Wenn mir jemand sagt, dass das nur Show ist, höre ich halt weg“, sagte zuletzt ein Fan bei einer Veranstaltung in Frankfurt. Die Umkehr der Darstellung vom harten Männersport hin zum Schauspiel ließ wohl manche Träume zerplatzen. Muss sie aber nicht. Denn Kraft und Dynamik legen die Wrestler auch heute noch an den Tag. „Es ist Sport, verbunden mit Theater“, sagt Tim Schatalow.

Der 20-Jährige gründete im letzten Jahr die Abteilung Wrestling beim ASV Neumarkt. Zehn junge Männer sind dort aktiv und absolvieren mehrmals in der Woche Kampf-, Kraft- und Ausdauertraining. Verschiedenste Techniken werden dabei erlernt, immerhin gibt es beim Wrestling „mehr als 2000 beliebig kombinierbare Bewegungen, das ist einmalig“. Schatalow sieht die Faszination in der Abgrenzung vom Normalen. Fußball oder Handball gäbe es schließlich überall.

Die Einschaltquoten stimmen

In den USA stellt sich die Lage anders dar. Hier erfreut sich der „Sport Wrestling“ großer Beliebtheit, die Arenen sind bei Veranstaltungen gut gefüllt und die Einschaltquoten der TV-Sender stimmen. Dass auch in Deutschland das Interesse an den Übertragungen gegeben ist, beweisen die Quoten des Deutschen Sportfernsehens (DSF). Das wöchentliche Magazins „Smackdown“ ist beliebt – speziell bei den 14- bis 49-Jährigen und vor allem bei den Männern. Trotz gut gebauter und mit Öl auf Glanz gebrachter Körper reagiert die Damenwelt weiter verhalten auf Wrestling-Darbietungen.

Um sich mehr mit den Darstellern identifizieren zu können, schickten die Veranstalter in den vergangenen Jahren vermehrt auch Frauen in den Ring. Ob der Funke bald überspringt? „Das Publikum wird immer anspruchsvoller“, sagt Wrestling-Star John Morrison. „In den USA haben die Menschen schon alles gesehen“, ergänzt Garland. Neue Ideen müssen her – die Europa-Tournee ist eine davon.

A 'thumbs almost up' review from Germany of the Strasbourg Show.

Also, ich war gestern bei der Show und über Raven wurde kein einziges Wort verloren?! Sid war körperlich in einer guten Verfassung; nur im Gesicht hat man ihm seine bald 50 Jahre doch angesehen.
Das Meet&Greet war direkt im Anschluß an die Veranstaltung und fand im Eingangsbereich statt. Fast alle Wrestler waren bereits anwesend, als man aus der Halle kam, nur René Duprée und Joe E. Legend fehlten noch, da sie den Main Event bestritten. Die Akteure saßen alle nebeneinander in einer Tischreihe und die Security ließ dann die Fans nacheinander an die Tischreihe hervor, um Fotos bzw. Autogramme erhaschen zu können(gegen Bezahlung versteht sich). X-Pacc wirkte ziemlich zugedröhnt, aber freundlich und sehr fannah, ebenfalls Scotty The Hotty. Sid wirkte eher ruhig und etwas unsicher, ließ sich aber auch mit einigen Fans ablichten.

Einen Fanartikelstand der AWR gab es natürlich auch. T-Shirts von RVD, Duprée und der AWR sind mir aufgefallen. Die Auswahl war allerdings nicht so groß, wie bei der WWE. Zudem gab es noch Tourposter, Tourhefte und auch diese riesigen Schaumstoffhände, bei denen ich kurz überlegt habe, mir eine zu kaufen.

Die Show selbst war IMO durchschnittlich. Das beste Match des Tages war das Triple-Threat Match um den No Limits-Titel, das Delicious Dunkie D für sich entscheiden konnte. Pac, den vorher noch nicht viele der Zuschauer kannten, konnte die Menge mit seinen Highflying-Aktionen richtig begeistern.
RVD gegen Sabu in einem Hardcore Match war ebenfalls gut, allerings nicht so stark, wie das Match in Basel, das im März stattfand.
René Duprée gegen Joe E. Legend überzeugte mich als Main Event weniger, allerdings konnte Duprée mit seinem ständigen "Vive la France" die Menge natürlich schnell hinter sich bringen. Wrestlerisch war es aber kein besonders gutes Match.
Die Show hatte eine Nettolänge von ca. 140 Minuten un der Zenith de Strasbourg war IMO gut besucht. Angeblich passen gut 12000 Zuschauer rein, wenn er ausverkauft ist. Es lässt sich schwer schätzen aber ich denke, dass es etwa 4000-5000 Fans waren, aber diese Angabe ist nur ein Schätzwert.

Für 30 Euro war ich auf jeden Fall zufrieden mit der Show, auch wenn die Zuschauerreaktionen für mich etwas enttäuschend waren. Die Facewrestler sprangen ab dem dritten Kampf sogar über die Absperrgitter, um mit den Fans abzuklatschen, da niemand von den Fans an die Gitter lief zum Abklatschen. Komisch, komisch diese Franzosen! "Vive la France"!

RVD writes on his website - I just finished up a tour of American Wrestling Rampage in Ireland. 6 matches in 6 days and I came out of it a bit banged up. Not from my matches, but from the extreme bus competitions! Finding ways to kill time while touring on the bus, we came up with a great idea of timing ourselves Spidermaning it to the front if the bus and back walking only on the arm rests of the chairs. That led to sideways crab walk races on the arms, which led to jumps from seat back to seat back using only hands and not touching the floor, etc. Most of my punishment came from taking a Razor Scooter down a parking lot ramp at the arena.

Also playing was Sabu, Sean Maxer, SVD!, and X-Pac-hence the name X-Pac Games 2009! As you’ve already guessed by now, the RVD TV video camera was there, so watch for some awesome silliness soon. Also look for other guys to appear from the tour such as Renee Dupree, Scoty 2 Hotty, M Dog, Kid Kash, and some familiar Irish Wrestlers from previous RVD TV episodes. www.awrwrestling.com One highlite from the tour was when we hit McDonald’s late one night after a show. Only the drive-through was open and the bus was too big to fit through. I taked the manager into letting us walk through and it was quite a site. A lot of photographs were taken of the line of wrestlers, some of us still in our wrestling gear, walking through with drunk Irish fans trying to get in on the pictures! What? We eat McDonald’s...when we’re in other countries. The crowd’s in Ireland were great, bringing lots of energy to some really good shows. AWR is on the grow. I’ll be returning to tour in November.

ROB VAN DAM and Sabu stole the show as wrestling came back to Belfast.

American Wrestling Rampage brought a host of former WWE and ECW stars to the last of their six-date Summer Bash 2009 tour of Ireland.

And in a nod to the original ECW, Sabu and van Dam fought under extreme rules.

To thunderous pops, they not only stole the show, but blew everyone away with their brutal and hard-hitting bout.

This was a joy to behold, as both men put their bodies on the line, throwing every classic move at each other, using weapons and battling throughout the venue.

What transpired was a fans' dream, with RVD hitting a van terminator, rolling thunder and the match-winning five-star frog splash.

Meanwhile, Sabu nailed some wicked chair shots, an Arabian face-buster and a chair assisted jump off the ropes.

The real-life mates shook hand afterwards amid the debris of broken tables and bent steel chairs.....

To a barrage of ECW and TNA chants from the 500-plus fans in attendance, the AWR roster showed they came to entertain right from the get go.

The fast-paced opener saw the ultra popular M-Dogg20, accompanied by Rachelle St Claire, beat The Ogre.

American veteran Joe E. Legend then had a decent brawl with comical aristocrat Paul "Lord of the Ring" Tracey. Both men showed some nice crowd-baiting and power moves before Legend hit a running elbow for the win.

Next up were a very heelish Kid Kash and an unbelievably popular Scotty Too Hotty. The pair both risked life and limb in a well-paced brawl.

After Scotty stole the pin with a sneaky roll-up, Kash lost his cool and physically attacked two members of Belfast band Fight Like Apes, before Scotty hit the ring for the save and struck his infamous worm finisher to send Kash Packing.

The No Limit light heavyweight belt was up for grabs in a three-way dance, which saw home-town hero Dunkan Disorderly, Shawn Maxer and Suicide Machine in action. The trio put many WWE and TNA stars to shame with their in-ring ability, high-flying moves and insane dives. The Belfast native picked up the well-deserved win and the title to rapturous ovation.

Billed as X-Pac and in DX mode, Sean Waltman was on top form challenging current AWR Heavyweight titlist Rene Dupre. The ex-WWE stars had a very decent match after some superb set-pieces and ringside shenanigans X-Pack saw his title hopes dashed though as he lost via DQ.

Dupree’s acquired quite a few tattoos nowadays, and looked in fantastic shape. The AWR strap, which he was recently awarded, looks superb. Kinda like a cross between the Shimmer and WWE world titles. X-Pac got a great reception coming out, but there was no heat for this bout. The combination of the excitement over Dunkan’s title win, and the earlier angle had seemingly left the kids in attendance knackered...... These two worked hard, but the ending of their title match was somewhat clumsy. The ref got bumped, and the Champ attempted to use the belt, but failed. Waltman used it instead, but stupidly had the belt in his hands when he roused the ref and attempted to pin Dupree. The match then seemed to end in the eyes of Pac, who knocked out the ref, but it wasn’t really made clear to the crowd for a few moments. Messy, but the fans popped for Waltman’s antics nonetheless."

American Wrestling Rampage - Portlaoise, good show, small enough crowd, no more than 200 in the function room of the Heritage Hotel; the venue was not conducive to high-flying pro-wrestling that's for sure. It was probably no more than 10 feet from the top of the turnbuckle to the roof, so big spots were kept to a minimum throughout.....

Main event pitted RVD and Sabu against Kid Kash and Rene Dupree, funny moment before the match even started (or maybe not). Sabu tried to throw a folding chair into the ring from the entrance but it didn't get that far and bounced off the top rope and hit a kid sitting front row Match dragged for me, too many chinlocks, RVD super over as you would expect, hits the five star for the win **1/2

“Lord of the Manor” Paul Tracey cut a promo about being above everyone else and degraded the fans in a sort of watered-down Chris Jericho, yet nonetheless entertaining and heat-inducing, way. Joe E Legend’s music hit and interrupted him. Joe called for a test of strength but Tracey backed away and made his way out of the ring. As Legend posed for the crowd soaking in their adulation – a regularly used foolhardy decision – turning his back to the rampway Paul Tracey hit him with his cane knocking him out for a while.

Joe E. Legend Vs. Lord of the Manor Paul Tracey announced for later on tonight.

Omen defeated (Dublin, Ireland’s) “Suicide Machine” Paddy Morrow

Decent reception for Morrow but he was knocked into ‘the morrow’ or possibly next week after a devastating Black Hole Slam by Omen. Huge ovation for his Swanton Bomb and Suicide Dive.

Side note: It seems that while WWE do not let wrestlers win in their home town very often, from what I’ve seen of Paddy Morrow, he doesn’t get to win in his home country!

Interval

Sabu, sporting a mach-3 style shaved head defeated ???? (During the interval I took too long outside and missed the start of the match. I think it may have been Joey Cabray via seated chair leg-drop onto opponent through table. Much longer appearance than his previous visits to the west of Ireland. Huge pops when he brought out and utilised chairs, tables and the guardrails. Botched his first attempt at the springboard elbow – which, all in all, is a good showing for Sabu compared to some of his bouts with the ‘e. I was disappointed there wasn’t a “You F’d up!” chant or an “ECW” chant but then most wouldn’t have heard either the ‘F’ word or the original ‘ECW’ so there ya go. Can’t win ‘em all.

Joe E. Legend defeated “Lord of the Manor” Paul Tracey

Chants of “He’s a Legend” “Joe E. Legend” and other variations of cheers that end with the word Legend echoed throughout the match. Nice amount of heat for Tracey, quite a few near falls and a good match, as always from Legend, to get the crowd hot enough for the main event but not burnt out.

Main Event

RVD and X-Pac defeated Rene Dupree and Kid Kash via 5 Star Frog Splash.

The Main Event saw four former World Wrestling Entertainment employees collide in a tag-team match. It had been announced as the Main Event after the curtain-jerker – opening match and the hype had built into a frenzied crescendo – fortunately it didn’t disappoint.

Rob Van Dam and X-Pac took on AWR champion Rene Dupree and Kid Kash in a very back-and-forth, to-and-fro, ebb-and-flow battle with reversals of moves and fortunes, tags-in and tags-out but as Van Dam was besting Dupree, the man who defeated him for the AWR World Championship earlier this year, X-Pac hit his signature Bronco Buster in the corner, while Van Dam took down Dupree and connected with the Five Star Frog Splash for the victory.

X-Pac and Van Dam posed for photographs in the ring after the match but disgusted by the loss Kid Kash took a youth’s foam finger and ripped it in two before storming backstage.

My First Wrestling Show!
Last night I went to my first wrestling show.... ever! Ireland isn't a country huge into wrestling and we never really had wrestling shows coming here in the past. Well AWR (American Wrestling Rampage) came to my town last night and it was epic!

First match was great fun. This guy Justin Shape came out to cut a promo to piss everyone off (which was great, he was a total douchebag!) and then Scotty 2 Hotty comes out to face him! Good fun, with Scotty doing all his familiar spots. I was shouting along to the worm pretty much on my own which was.... kinda embarrassing but hey, it was my first show!

Second match was pretty good, nice wrestling. Triple threat between Shawn Maxtor, M Dogg 20 and Dunken Disorderly. Though the highlight of this match was while we were watching it, we were up on the balcony like above the ring, and i turn around and see Rob Van Dam walking behind me! So we said hi, shook hands and all that and.... it was damn cool! Then the action really started. X-Pac vs Sabu!!! Great match and it was brilliant to see these two guys live. Sabu picked up the win after he put X-Pac through a table. Best match of the night came though with Suicide Machine taking on 'Lord of the Manor' Paul Tracy. it was like... Irish guy against an aristocratic, English landlord type Well most of our gang being English born, we were the only ones cheering for Tracy but it was such a fantastic match! Tracy surprisingly managed to pick up the after Suicide Machine accidentally kicked his (extremely hot) valet in the face. You know... I probably never marked out so hard in my life than when Tracy won

AWR Championship on the line next with Rene Dupree (Champion) taking on Joe E. Legend. Rene was great in this match, doing the old dance and 'I do not SUCK!!!" routine. it also looked like he spat at a child in the audience at one point which is... a good way to get heat! Dupree picked up the win after hitting Legend with the belt.

Then the main event. Brilliant match between two ECW originals, RVD and Kid Kash. Kid Kash went around threatening kids and tearing up their signs/merchandise and all the kids actually hated him with every fibre of their being. RVD kicked **** as always and won with an epic five star frog splash. Brilliant show all round. It was cool to meet RVD (though meeting 'Lord of the Manor" Paul Tracy was possibly just as cool. He seemed shocked people stopped to talk to him when X-Pac and Sabu were a few feet away ). Wrestling is so much better live it's ridiculous! Hopefully more shows come our way from now on

Renee looks in good shape, but X-Pac has lost an incredible amount of mass since I last saw him.
Passable match, but seemed to be cut short after Rene took a roundhouse kick to the face, which busted him open and possibly broke his nose. Immediately after Rene took the kick he went for the belt and clocked X-Pac with it, leading to the DQ finish.
X-Pac wins via DQ, Rene Dupree retains AWR Title.

AWR Live Review – NBA Arena, Tallaght 26/08/09

Before we get into the thick of this review/report, let me go into the specifics of how I’ll be rating it. At a live event I find it hard to attach things like star ratings and stuff, because it is often completely different if you ever watch it back on tape. So, for this review and all live event reviews, I will be adding how many euros I thought a segment was worth. Then at the end I will tot up the amount and I will show if I thought I got full value for the price I paid for my ticket. Got it? Good. Now on with the show.

Looking around at the crowd tonight, I was surprised to see a mixture of ages there to see AWR in the National Basketball Arena. There was the usual smattering of small kids that you get at every wrestling show, but there was also a sizeable chunk of adults and teenagers. There were even women! *drops jaw* I dare say that the people over 15 outnumbered the people under 15, which showed how well AWR succeeded in drawing in the casual audience.

Of course, having probably the strongest touring independent roster ever to come to Ireland probably helped them a tad, but it was still impressive considering the fans also have a choice of WWE and TNA within the next couple of months, as well as a Bernard Dunne fight. All hard competitors for the casual pocket.

The place wasn’t sold out, but about as near to full as you can get without selling out. I bought a 50 euro gold ticket at the door and managed to nab myself a sweet front row spot. In the gold section, I’d take a guess that there was about 180-200 people. There was at least that much outside that section again, probably a little more. So, my guesstimate on attendance would probably be around 400-450 people. I’m pretty hit or miss with those guesses though, and wouldn’t be shocked if I was out by a few dozen.

Production wise it was probably about as good as you could make the basketball arena look. They had a good entrance way, proper crowd barriers and football floodlight style lighting. While the lighting served its purpose well, it made for horrible photo taking. Nearly every angle had you aiming your lense straight into one of the lights. I’ll give them their first euro for the set up and looking slightly better than your average indy show. 1 EURO.

I didn’t spy any camera men in the arena, so no chance you’ll be seeing the Dublin show on DVD. If they plan on making regular stops in Dublin, I think they are missing an opportunity. If they do Tallaght next year, I’m sure that many would buy a DVD of this years show. With mega stars like RVD on the roster, you’d probably do decent online trade too.

When I first got to the arena at about 6:45, I was surprised to see the doors already open and that many people had filed in. I guess they must have set up the night before to make sure everything ran on schedule. The show pretty much started bang on time, so I’ll add another 50 cents to the ticket value for that. 50 CENTS

Now onto initial complaints, albeit they are pretty minor ones. Seat wise, the gold section chairs could have done with being just about a ¾ inch higher. Looking all the way across my row, I could see that the very top bar of the ring barricade was at eye level for nearly everyone. It kind of obscured anything mat based, but at least there wasn’t much work on the mat tonight. I’ll only take 50 cent off for that. Although, as a side note, I really would have liked to have seen at least one mat based, technical match, but I guess that isn’t something that panders to the casual market. MINUS 50 CENT

My other complaint is just a personal annoyance, but I DESPISE whoever thought it would be a good idea to sell those blow horns to kids. Kids + Sugar + Noise Makers = Bad Headache. They don’t add any atmosphere for me, just annoyance. I may be alone in this, but still. MINUS 50 CENT

There was also one handicap kid in a wheel chair near me, who I didn’t feel they catered to very well. He was stuck in the awkward corner spot where he not only had the ring post obscuring his view, but that big ass floodlight lighting rig too. It was also kind of heartbreaking watching him put out his little hand for every wrestler that came out, but not a single one touched it. MINUS 50 CENT.

Now onto the actual show!

Jamie Coleman made me laugh my ass of as the ring announcer with his big, fake American accent, but I guess that is part of the “Big American Experience” they promote. He did his job well enough, doing his best to keep the crowd revved up during the lulls in between matches.

KID KASH VS SCOTTY 2 HOTTY

The crowd was pretty hot for the opener, as you’d expect them to be, although the match itself had very little to it and was pretty short. It was pretty much Kash beating on Scotty for a short bit, and then Scotty going directly into the big comeback, skipping the middle of the match entirely, and then hitting the worm for the win. Were many people actually pinned by that in the WWE days? I can’t really remember. Kid Kash went about getting his heat in a strange way. He kind of came out very neutral, and even shook the refs hand and stuff. When Scotty came out, it was obvious who the face was, as Scotty made sure to give a big hello to everyone in the front row. Kash only really started having a go at the fans AFTER the match which I found very strange. It was a hot crowd for the opener so it did its job. I’ll give it 1.50 EURO.

Here is an example of Kid Kash showing exactly what family friendly entertainment means!

M-DOGG 20 VS PADDY MORROW VS SHAWN MAXER

M-Dogg was sporting a pretty fucking impressive Mohawk. It wasn’t a half assed one, it was full blown! Maxer played the heel for this with M-Dogg and Paddy sharing the babyface duties. I was really hyped to see this match, cause I honestly thought it was going to knock me dead, but I was a tad disappointed. I’ve seen all 3 guys in performances where they go all out, and they didn’t do that here. It was like they had a mind on the rest of the tour and were holding back from going balls to the wall. It was still a really good match mind you, but it felt like the last 10 minutes of a more epic contest, and you sensed they had another gear. They went to the highspots pretty early, and they all got their obligatory dives to the outside in. The end came when M-Dogg hit a big move on Paddy Morrow and turned his back. Maxer then rushed in and nailed Paddy with a standing shooting star and stole M-Dogg’s win. [Correction - it was actually M-Dogg 20 who did the standing SSP on Suicide Machine for the pin, Maxer got the sneaky pin behind his back immediately afterwards].This gets 5 EURO.

After this match, Renee Dupree came out to pose and gloat with his new AWR belt and did the standard, run down whatever town you’re in spiel. He was interrupted when the DX music hit and out came X-Pac. He stood up for truth, justice and the Irish way! And if Dupree wasn’t down with that he could fellate something apparently. Oh, and he challenged Dupree for the title later in the night which Dupree accepted. X-Pac sounded a little awkward on the mic which is odd considering how long he’s been doing this now. I’ll give this 50 CENT for setting up one of the double main events, even if it was by the numbers.

JOE E. LEGEND VS PAUL TRACEY

Paul Tracey comes out as “The Lord of the Manor” which is kind of a Hunter Hearst Helmsley style gimmick. He gets on the mic and says that he was once proud to be Irish, but when he looks out at all the trash, it makes him ashamed to be. Joe E comes out to defend the Irish people. Didn’t we just see this same promo with X-Pac and Dupree? Anyway, the match was pretty decent. Joe E is pretty good to watch live, as he has a good charisma and connects with the fans well. I was pretty distracted by his singlet though. It seemed to be a size too big and his moobs kept coming out I was surprised to see this actually got more time than the 3 way, but they used it well enough and I was pleasantly surprised. Tracey seemed to be missing a chunk of skin on his collarbone but it was a dry sore which are always the worst. Not sure if he did it in this match, but I sympathise with that kind of sore. I think it was Legend who picked up the win in this one, but I can’t recall the manner of the win. 4 EURO.

JOE CABRAY VS DUNKAN DISORDELY – FLAG MATCH, IRELAND VS THE UK

Weird that they chose Dunkan to be the out and out British guy. He comes out with a union jack and in a “Where are they now?” moment, Georgie Mac as his Irish hating manager. Cabray comes out looking like Uncle Fester with a bald head and no eyebrows. I also noticed what looked like a golf ball coming out of the back of his head, must have done that on some other show. He also brings the only T and A for the night, his valet who’s name I forget. It’s crazy how patriotic people get at wrestling events, as I think the Irish flag probably got the third biggest pop of the night. Both of the flags were put on poles mounted to the ring posts, and there was an awkward moment early in the match where the Irish flag came loose and fell to the floor on its own. Cabray and Disordely took it in their stride though and kept going until they got to an acceptable point where it could be reset. The match had tons of interference from Georgie Mac and Cabray’s valet, with both guys trying to get the upper hand. Cabray even managed a dive to the outside in this one. In the end Cabray picked up the win and hoisted the Irish flag high above his head. Cabray looks more polished every time I see him. Good atmosphere for this match given the Ireland Vs UK element and the wrestling was pretty good too. 5 EURO.

RENEE DUPREE VS X-PAC – AWR TITLE MATCH

This was a pretty good little match but nothing blow away. Match involved a lot of one of them selling on the floor outside. X-Pac went for the bronco buster 3 times for some reason. He hit it the first time and then missed the next two times. Dupree just seems to draw heel heat without really having to try. He didn’t even get the “OMG he used to be in WWE!” cheer tonight. He just exudes the “Boo me” aura. The ending of the match was a bit of a downer. X-Pac began to get the upper hand, so Dupree grabbed that sexy AWR belt and nailed him with it, causing referee Gerry Soul to DQ him like the dirty scoundrel that he is. 3 EURO

ROB VAN DAM VS SABU – NO DQ, EXTREME RULES

Anyone who simply paid for the 20 euro general admission, got a main event that was worth the price of admission by itself. Picture everything you’d want in an RVD Vs Sabu match and you pretty much got it right here. If the other guys on the roster seemed like they were pacing themselves to last the tour ahead, there was no such notion with these guys. It was balls to the wall. RVD probably came pretty close to ending Sabu’s tour on the first night a couple of times. There was one spot where RVD hit some sort of crazy ass suplex variation onto a chair with Sabu, and the moment Sabu impacted, just by the visual and the sound you could tell he got brained legit. Then when he got up, it was confirmed by the fact he’d been busted open hard way on the top of his head, ouch! I think he pretty much broke his ass going through a table too. Some new scars on his body to remember Ireland by. When they took the fight to the outside, it was kind of funny to watch the security have a coronary. Even the ringside crew seemed to have a panic attack. I personally came within an inch of getting my nose broken when RVD hit the guard rail directly in front of me. Sabu is like a man possessed once he gets going. He just doesn’t give a fuck and will kill himself and anyone in the near by vicinity. At the end of it all Rob Van Dam nailed the five star frog splash for the win, and they embraced afterwards. About as good as any of their ECW stuff, and it was an awesome match that had the crowd rocking. You couldn’t accuse either guy of half assing it. It was probably worth going to the show just to see this match alone. 20 EURO.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Because this is a touring company and not a one off show company, it at times felt like a house show style effort but a solid one at that. There was nothing worse than mediocre and the best was fucking fantastic. If they are coming to your area with this line up, then I’d definitely recommend giving American Wrestling Rampage a try.

I’ll also add 10 EURO to their final value amount just for the roster they brought over which is the best that has been independently assembled for our viewing pleasure.

SHOW VALUE: 48.50 EURO

I paid 50, but I’m not going to argue with just being 1.50 short of being full value for a gold ticket. On the other hand, if you bought a 20 euro ticket you got an extra 28.50 value for your money! Happy days!

Overall, a thumbs up for AWR.

The fans say ......."Reports came in a few weeks back that Chris Masters had re-signed for WWE. He was remembered for his physique and his Masterlock, one of which he lost before being released in 2007. The understanding for his return is nothing new for WWE, they release a guy they don't need on the terms that if they prove their determination by continuing to wrestle they will likely wind up back.

So, with Masters being a guy who did stick with it and is said to have greatly improved, who else do you see making a return sooner or later?

Top of my list would be Rene Dupree. The guy had a lot of potential when he was around, in fact I would say he was a genuine all-round performer being pretty good in-ring, pretty good on the mic, and I'm guessing a pretty nice guy to work with. That said, he was never outstanding, but I attribute that to his youth. He is only 25 so I can definitely see him back in WWE eventually."

Matches for Summer Bash are expected to be announced soon. Rene Dupree is
expected to be forced to defend the AWR Championship on the first night in
Dublin. AWR Officials are currently working on making a decision as to who will face Dupree. While many fans feel that Rob Van Dam should be given the shot, AWR Officials have pointed out that RVD received a re-match after Dupree beat him for the belt in France earlier this year. It is suspected that a fresher face will receive the shot.

August 26th, the Summer Bash tour will kick off in Dublin and finish on August 31st in Belfast. With that having been said.....

I'm really looking forward to seeing Rene Dupree, the current AWR Heavyweight Champion in action in August. Dupree has come a long, long way with regards to in-ring talent since his WWE days. He is so crisp and solid and is un-doubtedly going to be a huge star in AWR in the years to come. I highly doubt he will be a fan favourite this summer though. His popularity in France has risen to un-precidented heights, while fans in Ireland just can't seem to warm to him. Perhaps the fact that he be-littles the Irish fans at every opportunity has something to do with this :-)

Rene Dupree became AWR Heavyweight Champion after beating Rob Van Dam in a one on one match on Live TV (Channel W9, France) on March 24th 2009. Rene is a former WWE Tag Team Champion and is one of the best pound for pound wrestlers in the business.

Winning the title was one of, if not the, greatest moments thus far in my career. It's given me confidence that I needed as a singles wrestler.

The live television every week and being able to travel so much, I loved it.

AWR SUMMER BASH 2009
AWR will head back to Ireland beginning on August 26th with a massive show in Dublin's National Basketball Arena in Tallaght. In from there, American Wrestling Rampage will travel the country even going as far as Belfast, Northern Ireland's Ulster Hall on August 31st. In between these two show AWR will land in Limerick, Castlebar, Killarney and Portlaoise for action-filled shows.

RENE DUPREE - The current AWR World Champion, Rene Dupree defeated Rob Van Dam in spectacular fashion in March in France to lift the Title. How will the "French Phenom" manage to hold onto his title in Ireland with the entire AWR roster gunning for him?

SCOTTY THE HOTTY - Former WWE Tag and Cruiserweight Champion, the fan favourite Scotty likes to have fun in the ring. That's right, if there's one thing Scotty insists on, its having fun. The former "Too Cool" member is one of the most popular AWR stars and will be hoping to land his trademark "Worm" move on whomever his opponent is.

Shawn Maxer - Former AWR Champion (Lost to Rob Van Dam in March, who then lost to Rene Dupree)

Dunkan Disorderly - A man with a bright future in this business. Belfast's own Dunkan Disorderly is very happy to heading to his hometown as part of this great tour.
'Superstar' Paul Tracey - One of Ireland's first true "pro" wrestlers, the ring veteran Tracey travels with a "take no Bulls**t" attitude. The talented "Superstar" likes to wrestle and end matches quickly with his hand getting raised. As he says himself, "I'm in it to win it, and I ain't getting paid by the hour".
Joey Cabray - The big man will no question be looking to break some bones on the Summer Bash tour... the bones of his opponents of course. The hard hitting Cabray is known for his flashy suplexes and high impact moves. They have brought him huge success in the past as he is a former Champion of Europe.
